A Little Bit About Me + FOOD:
Having grown up in Taiwan and Hong Kong before moving to America ten years ago, it was food that brought me comfort when I was thousands of miles away from family.
A plate of homemade cabbage and pork dumplings, nowhere near as perfect as the ones my grandpa taught me how to make from scratch as a kid, but a glimpse of home in cold, cold Idaho.
Food is the love language I’ve always known, as much as it is my way of connecting with people. And it was over these steaming plates of warmth that I exchanged stories with new friends, excitedly drawing similarities between American diners and Hong Kong cha chaan tengs, trying to explain how coca cola chicken wings actually ARE a thing, how a teaspoon of sugar in stir fry can do wonders, ending the conversation with the promise of more good food to come.
I’ve come a long way from throwing spaghetti, American cheese slices, a can of tuna and milk in a pot (look, I just wanted to know what would happen). But that curiosity has always been there. This, is my way of being creative.
There’s a thrill that comes from experimenting with different ingredients and flavor combinations. Who knew chocolate and curry could go together so well? Cheese and pineapple?? Coffee and pork??? It’s fascinating, and it brings me so much joy when I get to explore outside of the box, to reintroduce what’s familiar, and learn new skills along the way.
With 5 years of experience producing some of the most viral videos across BuzzFeed, Tasty and About To Eat, I’ve gotten the chance to do a lot of wild explorations, to work with and learn from incredible people in the culinary world, but the adventure keeps going.
Whether it’s a 24-hour challenge hunting down blue-colored ingredients, a relaxing lifestyle vlog, a deep dive into what makes a great bowl of ramen in 1 minute, or a real life recreation of Pixar’s Ratatouille; the curiosity never ends.
